The canyon of the Maitenes
(We apologize, this page is under construction)
Formed by the rain, the wind and the water of the Cross
Brook in their course toward the Chubut river,
this narrow canyon that runs from East to West among the hills of the Oriental
Sierra of El Maitén, this place of magnificent
natural beauty conjugates stone, water and trees in an unique mixture.
You can arrive here traveling the #4 Provincial Route three kilometers
from El Maitén, from the place where
the Cross Brook crosses this route. Ascending
smoothly among small native mounts of ñires (Nothofagus antarctica)
and maitenes (Maitenus boaria) the path affords us pleasing surprises
to each step, from small natural ponds that some trouts have taken for
" housing " to attractive caves and amphitheaters formed by the force of
the elements, to finish the journey in the Waterfall
of the Life, a fall of more than 15 meters (50ft) that it forms a natural
pond into the Andes.
