HISTORY
1922. The Argentinean Government decides the realization of a brunch of 75cm. of trail, called "narrow" and also "economic" due to the low cost of the material. It is summed up the purchase of locomotives and wagons, being begun the works then that, in their entirety of 402Km, they will find a numberless of difficulties. Due to the characteristics of the land, it was necessary to draw dividing of waters, ascending and descending by the hillsides of the valleys. 626 curves were traced, some of them of up to 180º to favor the braking of the locomotives in the big depressions of the land. |
| In certain tracts long embankments were built and, in other, courts were made in the land, similar to big channels. Everything was carried out with great effort; the pick and the shovel were the only work utensils. In few opportunities use of the dynamite was made to conquer the resistance of the hard rock. Among the works of more zeal it is necessary to mention the bridges on the river Ñorquincó, Chubut and Chico, standing out this last one for their extension of 105m without intermediate supports. At little distance of the same one is the tunnel of the Cerro Mesa, holed along 108m of granitic rock. In the left inferior picture is a part of that published by the magazine " Leoplán " in their edition Nº 20 of March 4, 1936. | |
