JOURNEY AND LANDSCAPE
There are only three stations: El Maitén y Esquel are the terminals, Lepá the intermediate on. Else "steps" from El Maitén to Esquel are Leleque, Mayoco, La Cancha and Nahuel Pan, stops destinated to charge water and, eventually, take or leave passengers. During the low tourist season, the Old Patagonian Express has a weekly service, departing on Wednesdays from El Maitén to Esquel, returning on Thursdays. The particularity that humanizes to this little train is its "civical sense", "unrespect" of its stations, it stops where somebody need, and transports free to the countrymen. |
| During the journey is notable the absence of trees; there only can find some at the riversides of water courses, and at railroad stations. But, by the other way, is notable the great quantity of sheep that "overcoat" the landscape. Between Leleque and Nahuel Pan you also can find groups of guanacos (Lama patagonicus) and ñandúes (Rhea americana) that, on the rails or near them, looks that they wait the pass of "La Trochita" to start a race in a type of innocent game. | ![]() |
